After LAP-BAND® surgery, it is extremely important to follow your doctor’s eating guidelines in order to maximize your weight loss efforts.
In the first few weeks after the adjustable gastric band has been placed around your stomach, you’ll restrict yourself to liquids like soups. Your stomach will need time to adjust to the band, and you will need to get used to how much you can eat at any given time. After a while, you’ll graduate to soft foods and, eventually, to solids.
It’s important that you eat three meals a day with no snacks in between. You will be discouraged against drinking liquids with your meals, although getting plenty of water between meals is important. These foods provide essential nutrients, fiber, and energy for your body to continue to remain healthy. Junk and processed foods add calories with no positive benefit; they can also slow or stop your weight loss despite the gastric band.
